In Memoriam

Lin Young: "It is with a heavy heart that I must report that Lin Young of Gallipolis, OH passed away earlier today. He was formerly the Superintendent of MCR Division 9 and also the owner of the Grafton & Greenbrier RR. I don't have any details other than he was in California at the time. When I receive more info I will pass it along."
Reported by: Dave Matheny (13 November)
Information provided by: Jim Ruisinger"It is with incredible sadness that I must pass on the news that our former superintendent, Lin Young, passed away suddenly early Saturday November 12. Lin had just finished his annual horseback trip in Death Valley, CA and was on the way home. The story I have heard is that he was a passenger in a car and just slumped over. CPR was ineffective.
I will let you all know when arrangements have been made."

Martha M. Newberry, 73, of Shaker Heights, beloved wife of Eric Newberry and cherished mother of Sarah Newberry, died October 30, 2011. Memorial contributions would be gratefully appreciated and may be directed to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or to any charity that the giver believes would honor her life.

Those who knew her will remember her exceptionally sharp mind, keen wit, and insightful and irreverent sense of humor. In the face of many difficulties, she maintained her optimism, graciousness, and moral compass. Even when gravely ill, she impressed all those who met her with her courage and good humor.

In addition to her family, she is survived by several dear friends. One of the delights of her life was that she had maintained close and loving friendships over time and distance.

A freelance graphic designer for most of her professional life, she had many commercial, educational, political, and charitable clients in the greater Cleveland area.

She was superlatively competent in a number of areas, including model-building and needlework. In Spring 2011 she won Best of Show at the National Model Railroad Association's Mid Central Region Convention for a scratch-built 1:48 scale model that was a perfect replica of a house she had observed in rural Huron County. Her 1:12 scale model of a room in a Tudor mansion was featured in the December 2007 issue of Miniature Collector (p. 23). She designed and built the room box and furniture based on careful research of the period, and hand-embroidered the cushions and rugs on fine silk gauze.

She was a great and knowledgeable sports fan, particularly of baseball, and would have loved to see the Indians win the World Series one more time. She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and listening to bluegrass music.

John F. Bauer, 68, finished mowing his lawn at 2040 Meloy Rd., had crossed the street to get his mail and was hit in the middle of the road while returning to his property by a Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Ronald R. Bowers, 40, of Barberton, according statements taken by witnesses and Bowers, Brimfield Police Chief David Blough said.
Brimfield Police and Fire departments arrived to find Bauer down on the roadway. Bauer was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, but appeared dead on arrival, Blough said.
"It appears from on scene investigation that the driver took some sort of evasive action," he said.
There was no indication of Bowers being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but a blood sample was requested for the ongoing investigation.
The roadway where the crash occurred has a speed limit of 40 miles per hour and is just over a hill going northbound.
Blough said Brimfield Police do not believe poor visibility caused the accident.
"(Bowers) may not have seen (Bauer) in time, but we don't believe it's a sight issue."

John Weinhold MCR Div 2
It is with sadness that we note the passing of long-time model railroader and Life Member of the NMRA, John Weinhold. John passed away March 21, 2011 of natural causes in his apartment and funeral arrangements were made by a niece. John had served as Superintendent of the Keystone Division from May 1967 through April 1970 and edited the Keystone Flyer during that time. After his terms as Superintendent, he stayed on as Editor of the Keystone Flyer until April 1972. John loved to do research and compile the information into potential books. He was always writing something and was a font of information. His presence will be missed.
